The Mustang is a car built for fun, the All-American Pony car, Ford’s Halo car. At the time that the ‘73 Mustang hit showrooms, questions of fuel efficiency and Smog Regulations coming into play, the future of sports cars that had any sort of power seemed to be in question. Fortunately for enthusiasts considering a 1973 Mustang, Ford still offered 3 different V8 engines for consumers to option their cars with, and the person who purchased this particular Mustang gravitated toward the 302 cubic inch V8. The vehicle you see here is a 1973 Ford Mustang convertible, powered by a 302ci V8 mated to a 3 speed manual transmission, and showing just over 46k miles on the 5 digit mechanical tachometer. As Ford looked ahead with styling and color options, the color palette for the Mustang gradually became more muted. Ford offered colors like Medium Brown, Medium Copper, or Medium Yellow to name a few. This particular Mustang is finished in Light Pewter (Code 5A) which suits the car well, especially with the contrast that the black convertible top provides. In addition, the front end of the car has a nice look to it thanks to the black and chrome trimmed grille and headlights. The body panels line up as they should, and the paint covering them is evenly applied and glossy. Exterior pieces like chrome trim, chrome bumpers, and lights at the front and rear, are in great condition. Wheels come in the form of black and chrome Magnum 500-style wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich white letter tires. Behind the wheel of this Mustang is the place to be, and the black trimmed interior is inviting. Vinyl bucket seats, faux wood trim, a single spoke steering wheel, and angular dashboard are details that are immediately obvious. The interior looks to have been left highly original, and shows some age in a few places. The carpeting is faded, there are a few rips in the driver’s seat, and the trim is worn in a few spots. Despite those small issues, which could be easily addressed by the next owner, this Mustang offers a number of other nice options. A JVC radio, a pair of large easy to read gauges, an auxiliary tachometer, a power top switch, and a shifter close at hand. Under the hood is a 302ci V8 mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. This car did leave the factory with a 302ci V8, which would’ve been rated at 210 horsepower and had a 2BBL carburetor. Engine bay highlights are Accel Ignition components, “powered by Ford” valve covers, and power steering.
